Problem Description

New U.S. Daylight Savings Time rules go into effect in March 2007. Consequently, the following effects may be seen:

-The clock shown on Cisco IP Communicator may be an hour off.

-The timestamps shown on Cisco Softphone and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator may be an hour off.

Background

On August 8, 2005, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (H.R.6.ENR) was signed into law. Section 110 of this Act modified the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the US. Beginning in March of 2007 and beyond, DST will begin on the second Sunday of March at 2 AM and end the first Sunday of November at 2 AM.

For more information, see the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Section 110).

The old DST policy dictated the start of DST was the first Sunday of April and ended on the last Sunday of October.

Problem Symptoms

The clock displayed on the main interface of Cisco IP Communicator and timestamps on Cisco Softphone and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator may be an hour off during the below timeframes in 2007:

-March 11 to April 1 in 2007

-October 28 to November 4 in 2007

Workaround/Solution

Cisco Softphone

- Upgrade the OS on end user client PCs. For information on upgrading Windows PCs, see the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center.

Cisco IP Communicator

- In order for Cisco IP Communicator to behave properly, both of the below steps must be followed:

  1. Upgrade the OS on end user client PCs. For information on upgrading Windows PCs, please see the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center.

  2. Upgrade Cisco Unified CallManager to an appropriate software version based off the Cisco Unified CallManager Field Notice.

**Note: Mexico does not observe the new DST dates and continues to observe the DST dates dictated under the old DST policy. After applying the fix for the 2007 DST adjustment on the Cisco Unified CallManager (CSCsf07523), there is no option to select for 'Pacific Standard Time (Mexico)' and 'Mountain Standard Time (Mexico)' for Date/Time Group Configuration. As a result, users with Mexico PST or Mexico MST setting will be 1 hour ahead when US DST starts (March 11th, 2007) to when Mexico DST starts (April 1st, 2007) and 1 hour behind when Mexico DST ends (October 28th, 2007) to when US DST ends (November 4th, 2007).

  3. For Cisco IP Communicator versions 2.0(1) and earlier (including Cisco IP Communicator versions 1.x), upgrade to version 2.0(2). Version 2.0(2) can be obtained at the Cisco IP Communicator Software Download (registered customers only) page.

**Note: Cisco IP Communicator 2.0(2) does not take the 2007 change in DST policy into account for users in the Atlantic or Newfoundland time zones. Please contact Cisco TAC for a hotfix that addresses the change in DST policy for the Atlantic and Newfoundland time zones.

Cisco Unified Personal Communicator

- Upgrade the OS on end user client PCs.

For Windows users:

See the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center for more information on upgrading Windows PCs..

For Mac users:

Please see the following Apple URL, About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (delta), for more information on upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.6.

Cisco Unified Video Advantage

- No action or update is required for Cisco Unified Video Advantage.
