Problem Description

The customer may experience a link failure with the 1000Base-SX interface on the WS-C2950SX-24 or WS-C2950SX-48-SI. The link and line protocol will not come up when connected.

Background

Only units listed in the above serial number range were manufactured during the time the defective component was available.

Problem Symptoms

When the 1000Base-SX interface on the WS-C2950SX-24 or WS-C2950-48-SI is in shutdown state, the directly connected interface on the neighbor device does not recognize it and the line protocol stays up. With UDLD enabled on both ports, the other side changes to error-disabled.

Workaround/Solution

There is no workaround for this problem.

Replacements will be supported via the standard RMA process going forward.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

Switches with the potential to have the affected transceivers or optical module were manufactured with specific system serial numbers. The Switch's System Serial Numbers can be found on:

a) The packout box.
b) The back of the switch itself.
c) Using the show version | include command. If the switch is already installed in a network, telnet to the unit, or connect directly to the switch console, and type the show version command and reference the System Serial Number .
