Problem Description

IAD2431-1T1E1 model does not power up with DC battery back up unit. The DC feed common mode choke component was omitted from the product Business Object Model (BOM). The pads are there but no component is stuffed.

Background

IAD2431-1T1E1 does not power up when an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) providing DC power is connected to it.

Problem Symptoms

IAD2431-1T1E1 units work perfectly fine with AC power. The problem is that the units do not work with DC power due to a missing component. When a UPS providing DC power is connected to the IAD2431-1T1E1 the unit will not power up.

Workaround/Solution

Identify if the hardware platform rev/version is missing the component. For platforms missing the DC choke component, use a UPS that provides AC power with the IAD2431-1T1E1 unit or return materials authorization (RMA) the unit for a new unit. Once ECO E081311 has been implemented, all units with hardware platform rev 800-21617-05/Rev B0 will perform with either AC or DC power source.

Product shipped from Service Logistics may still exhibit this problem. To ensure an RMA replacement is not affected by this problem, request an RMA coded as shown below:

Service Level: Mfg New - 3rd Bus Day NON BILLABLE
Failure Class: Administrative Request
Failure Code: Field Notice Alert

Note: Replacements fulfilled through this process typically take three business days or more to arrive on site, therefore service level agreements do not apply to RMAs coded as shown above.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

Example:

Router#sh diag
IAD2431 Backplane EEPROM:
        PCB Serial Number : XXXXXXXXXXX
        Processor type : XX
Top Assy. Part Number : 800-21617-04
        Board Revision : A0
        Fab Part Number : XX-XXXX-XX
        Deviation Number : XXXXX-XXXX
Manufacturing Test Data : XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX
        RMA Number : 0-0-0-0
        RMA Test History : 00
        RMA History : 00
        Chassis Serial Number :
        Chassis MAC Address :
        MAC Address block size :
        Field Diagnostics Data :
        Hardware Revision :
        Number of Slots :
        EEPROM format version 4

Verify that the Top Assy. Part Number field has 800-21617-05 under the IAD2431 Backplane EEPROM: The number after the second -should be -05 or higher.
