Products Affected

Cisco E-Mail Manager (CEM) - 5.0

Problem Description

Cisco E-Mail Manager will overwrite manual changes to Java memory settings in the wl.cfg file if the E-Mail Manager Configuration Tool is utilized.

Background

When a user saves changes in the E-Mail Manager Configuration Utility, the manual changes that were made in the wl.cfg file are overwritten.

The manual changes that are stored in the wl.cfg file could contain memory adjustments to address system performance issues. The result of entering the E-Mail Manager Configuration Utility will be to default these settings and thus returning the system to the former state where the performance issues occurred.

Problem Symptoms

The issues that may occur if you are faced with this situation will vary from deployment to deployement. The symptom that will result from this issue will be the return of the issue that existed prior to the modification of the wl.cfg file.

One possible issue may be that the system runs out of memory for the tserver if there is a heavy load on the system. Users will not be able to use the system, and Out of Memory errors will be seen in the tserver log.

Workaround/Solution

Workaround:

Reset the values of the file to their previous settings and do not use the E-Mail Configuration Utility again until you apply the Engineering Special patch ES23.

Solution:

ES23 has been created to resolve this issue and is available via the Bug Toolkit (registered customers only) . There is a link in the defect that will lead you to the ES. Read all installation instructions in the readme file before applying the ES.
