Problem Description

The SPA-2GE-7304 has been identified with having a resistor that allows voltage to drop below tolerance.

This only pertains to the 68-2206-02 version stipulated in the Products Affected section of this field notice.

Background

The cause of the SPA-2GE-7304 voltage warning message (environmental monitor) is due to a faulty resistor and is hardware related.

This field notice will deal with voltage drops caused by the faulty Trim resistor thus causing the 1.2V rail to trim to 1.0V.

It is also possible for sporadic SPA packet drops to be experienced under the conditions of a lower voltage output, namely if the 1.2V power supply goes below or above the allowed range (0.984V - 1.416V) and could dip below the shutdown threshold causing the IOS to shutdown the SPA-2GE-7304. IOS running on the SPA-2GE-7304 regularly monitors various voltage rails on the board. Should any of those rails fall under or over preset thresholds, IOS will issue a WARNING or a CRITICAL messages.

Problem Symptoms

Below is an example of an output logging displayed:

Note: The slot/final voltage may vary, when type inputing the following command manaully.

To identify the offending SPA you may execute the following IOS command:

SPA-2GE-7304 2.5V measured at 2.486 V
SPA-2GE-7304 3.3V measured at 3.246 V

Customers that have a SPA-2GE-7304 (version 68-2206-02 only) can use the standard RMA process to have their card replaced.
