CUE with CCME or SRST version 3.1 using IOS 12.3(8)T

Problem Description

An interoperability problem has been found between Cisco CallManager Express (CCME) or Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) when using Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.3 (8)T with Cisco Unity Express (CUE) voice mail, automated attendant or Greeting Management System (GMS). CUE does not respond to Call Forwards when "dialplan-pattern" is configured on CCME.

Background

This issue affects systems using Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(8)T with Cisco CallManager Express (CCME) or Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) and Cisco Unity Express (CUE). In IOS Release 12.3(8)T CCME has been enhanced to accommodate E.164 format for call forward scenarios. Specifically, CUE does not respond when an extension pattern configured for dialplan-pattern command matches the CUE pilot numbers CUE currently accepts only extension based triggers (call-in numbers) for voice mail, automated attendant and GMS. Calls to CUE voicemail, auto attendant and GMS fail.

Problem Symptoms

Call Forward to Cisco Unity Express does not work for any user or Group Distribution Mailbox (GDM) with CCME release 3.1.0.1, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(8)T, when 'dialplan-pattern' command is configured on CCME.

Workaround/Solution

An enhancement ddts CSCee57422 has been opened against CUE to support configuring multiple triggers via the GUI. This is expected to be delivered in a near-term, upcoming release of the product.

Workarounds:

  1. This interoperability problem has been reported in 12.3(8)T images only. Downgrading to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(7)T1 resumes full service.

  2. Choose not to use dialplan-pattern under telephony-service.

  3. Multiple triggers may be configured on CUE through CLI.

Note:?In the following example the two triggers for voicemail application, one with trigger 3380 and the other with trigger 4085553380. Repeat this for all the applications (VM, AA, GMS) for which you need E.164 support.

    ccn trigger sip phonenumber 3370
    application "autoattendant"
    enabled
    locale "en_US"
    maxsessions 4
    end trigger

    ccn trigger sip phonenumber 3380
    application "voicemail"
    enabled
    locale "en_US"
    maxsessions 4
    end trigger

    ccn trigger sip phonenumber 3390
    application "promptmgmt"
    enabled
    locale "en_US"
    maxsessions 1
    end trigger

    ccn trigger sip phonenumber 4085553380
    application "voicemail"
    enabled
    locale "en_US"
    maxsessions 4
    end trigger

  4. IOS translation rules can be used to route incoming 10 digit, E.164 called numbers to abbreviated extensions. The example below will route incoming calls to E.164 number 4085551000 to 4 digit extension 1000.

    voice translation-rule 1
    ..rule 1 /4085551000/ /1000/

    voice translation-profile pstn-incoming
    ..translate called 1

    dial-peer voice 1 pots
    ..translation-profile incoming pstn-incoming
    ..incoming called-number 4085551000
    ..direct-inward-dial

or you can have a SIP dial peer pointing to CUE with E.164 format and use a translation rule to translate E.164 format called number to the actual trigger on CUE. This will help if you are getting E.164 based calls from any other interface than PSTN.

    See the following example:

    voice translation-rule 1
    ..rule 1 /4085551000/ /1000/

    voice translation-profile to_cue
    ..translate called 1

    dial-peer voice 408 voip
    translation-profile outgoing to_cue
    destination-pattern 4085551...
    session protocol sipv2
    session target ipv4:1.3.6.90
    dtmf-relay sip-notify
    codec g711ulaw
    no vad
