Field Notice: FA00325 - After Upgrading MeetingPlace Web to Newer Version, GWSTATUS Shows That Audio SerVice Did Not Get Upgraded to the New Version

Problem Description

Note: This Field Notice is a legacy Latitude Field Notice that has been converted to the Cisco format so the information would remain available to their customers.

caution Caution:?This will affect MeetingPlace Web customizations. See Step 3 in the Workaround/Solution section.

After upgrading your existing MeetingPlace Web, telnet to the MeetingPlace server and issue the gwstatus command. You will notice that all MeetingPlace Web services have been upgraded to the new version except for the Audio Service. It still shows the version before the upgrade

The reason the Audio Service and its associated files did not get upgraded is because for some unknown reason, the MeetingPlace Web installer thinks that your current MeetingPlace Web does not have audio service. As a result, it does not install the Audio Service related files during the upgrade.

Problem Symptoms

Audio Service appears to be functional even with the older files. However, the mixing of files from different versions may result in unpredictable MeetingPlace Web behavior.



Re-run the last MeetingPlace Web installer. For example, you just ran the installer to upgrade a previous version of MeetingPlace Web. In this case, you need to re-run the installer in MODIFY mode to add the Audio Service to your installation.

Steps for re-running the MeetingPlace Web installer:

  1. Verify the success or failure of your Audio Service upgrade immediately after installing MeetingPlace Web and rebooting the server.

  2. If the Audio Service did not upgrade properly, the MeetingPlace Web installer will have to be re-run.

  3. If Web customizations have already been applied, DO NOT re-run the installer. Re-running the MeetingPlace Web installer in MODIFY mode will replace all files, and customizations will be overwritten. Please contact the Latitude Customer Support Center.

  4. If Web customizations have not been applied, proceed to next step.

  5. Because you are running the same installer, the program will present you with 3 options:

    • MODIFY

    • REPAIR

    • REMOVE

  6. Make sure MODIFY is checked, and click Next.

  7. You will see that the Audio Service is unchecked ,even though you supposedly already have the Audio Service running.

  8. Check the Audio Service, and if applicable, also check the Real Audio option and/or Windows Media option.

  9. Note:?Do not uncheck any other components. Doing so will cause the installer to uninstall those components and MeetingPlace Web will not work properly.

  10. Reboot the server after the installer is finished.

  11. Perform full Web functionality testing.


Engineering will investigate why the installer could not detect the existence of the audio service on the MeetingPlace Web server, thereby causing the installation program to skip upgrading the audio service component.
