Field Notice: FA00243 - Missing MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Master Service After Upgrade to MeetingPlace Web 4.0

Problem Description

Note: This Field Notice is a legacy Latitude Field Notice that has been converted to the Cisco format so the information would remain available to their customers.

Upgrade to MeetingPlace Web 4.0. The internal designation is version A new service called "MeetingPlace Web Conferencing" should be created. This new service is a master service that controls the startup and shutdown of other MeetingPlace Web services. Also acts as a watchdog and automatically restarts any disabled MeetingPlace Web services. After upgrade and reboot, when you try to access MPWeb home page, you get:

"An unexpected error has happened. Please retry operation"

If you open NT Services Control Panel, you will notice the following services are not running:

  • MeetingPlace Conferencing Gateway

  • MeetingPlace Conferencing GCC

  • MeetingPlace Conferencing MCS

The new service "MeetingPlace Web Conferencing" is missing as well.

Problem Symptoms

MeetingPlace Web not functional.


Option 1:

Register the master service manually and reboot the server

Procedure when MPWeb is installed under d:\Latitude :

  1. Open DOS window

  2. Navigate to d:\Latitude\MPWeb\DataSvc folder

  3. Enter the command 'mastersvc.exe -regserver", as shown below:

    d:\>Latitude\MPWeb\DataSvc\mastersvc.exe -regserver

  4. Restart your server. During the restart, you may see the hourglass for a while before desktop appears. Please do not interrupt the Windows startup process.

  5. Open Services control panel. If "MeetingPlace Web Conferencing" master service is not running, start this service.

  6. Open eventlog. You may see events such as "Start to kick start JengaX", "Running SQLInstall.exe to update database schema ..".

  7. After a minute or two, eventlog should settle down and all MPWeb services should be up and running. Open browser and verify MPWeb is fully functional.

Option 2:

Run MPWeb installer and choose "Repair" mode.
