MeetingPlace Web

MPWeb 4.2.7 upgrade

Problem Description

Note: This Field Notice is a legacy Latitude Field Notice that has been converted to the Cisco format so the information would remain available to their customers.

If you upgrade a Latitude gateway server running MPWeb or MPNotes to the new MPWeb 4.2.7, you may experience the following error messages during reboot :

Error extracting support files: The parameter is incorrect
Setup.exe and Ikernel.exe running in memory

This is an InstallShield message. Setup does not complete, mpweb database not upgraded, and as a result, MPWeb server is broken.

MeetingPlace eventlog shows:

Error reading hostname
Waiting for database to come up to appropriate revision

Problem Symptoms

MeetingPlace Web is not functional after upgrade.

Workaround/Solution

WORKAROUND:

RESOLUTION 1 - Configure memory for MSDE using osql command

  1. After installing MPWeb 4.2.7, choose option 'I will restart the machine later'. Wait for InstallShield to complete and close.

  2. Open Explorer and navigate to:

    c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0C0CD834-9072-449A-B87A-C053AEEF5EE3}

Note:?The exact text between the brackets { } will be different, and if there are more than one {xxx} folders, you can tell which folder represent your failed MPWeb install by checking it's folder date/time.

  3. Rename setup.ilg to setup.ilg.old

  4. Reboot machine and log on. Setup should proceed without any error

RESOLUTION 2 - can be used if you missed option A above :

  1. After installing MPWeb 4.2.7, choose option "Restart Now". Wait for InstallShield to complete and close.

  2. Log on, and notice that setup starts (brief messages regarding the update of Windows control panel...), then error message should appear. Click OK, wait for setup to exit.

  3. Shutdown all MeetingPlace services manually. Make sure none of them is running.

  4. Open Explorer and navigate to:

    c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0C0CD834-9072-449A-B87A-C053AEEF5EE3}

Note:?The exact text between the brackets { } will be different, and if there are more than one {xxx} folders, you can tell which folder represent your failed MPWeb install by checking it's folder date/time.

  5. Rename setup.ilg to setup.ilg.old

  6. Open DOS command window and change directory (cd) to the folder shown in step 4.

How do you navigate to folders in DOS? Try the following:

    c:\> cd program*
    c:\Program Files> cd InstallShield*
    c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information> cd {0c0cd834*
    c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0C0CD834-9072-449A-B87A-C053AEEF5EE3

  7. Execute the command line:

    setup.exe -rebootreboot.ini ModifyDatabase /ODBCReboot=1

  8. A message indicating that setup modifies or updates the SQL Server database should pop up. Wait for setup completion. At the end, some MeetingPlace services have been restarted. You can manually restart all of them, or reboot the machine. In either case the MP Web installation should be up and running.

SOLUTION:

None, as this is a InstallShield bug.
