Problem Description

Customers have expressed concerns that they can see a light through the front panel cover of the WS-SUP720.

Background

In the WS-SUP720 original design, there is an LED on the left hand side of the console port which is for diagnostic purposes only. At the time of shipment, the LED was covered as it has no function for customers. Although it was covered, the LED light shows through the front panel, causing customer confusion.

Customers have expressed concerns that they can see a light through the front panel cover. Upgrading software to 8.3(1) or 12.2(17b)SXA will power off the LED and avoid any confusion.

Problem Symptoms

The diagnostic LED shows through the front panel. There is no impact to performance.

Reference the image below. The diagnostic LED is on the left side of the Console port.

Workaround/Solution

This Field Notice is informational only as there is no impact on product performance. Customers have expressed concerns as they can see the light through the cover. To avoid this, a software fix has been integrated to power off the diagnostic LED. Please upgrade your software to 8.3(1) or 12.2(17b)SXA and above to power off the LED.
