GSS-4480-K9

Being upgraded to GSS Software version 1.1(0)

Problem Description

If using the documented upgrade procedure posted prior to 12/5/2003, the upgrade of a GSS-4480-K9 to version 1.1(0) may leave the Global Site Selector (GSS) in an unstable state. The upgrade process does not allow the primary GSS Manager (GSSM) and GSS to synchronize their configurations correctly and can cause the GSSs to respond incorrectly to Domain Name Server (DNS) queries or illustrate other database issues. The problem can occur on a single GSS because the issue is between the Mangement software and the individual GSS software. .

Background

Cisco has discovered a flaw in the upgrade procedure of a GSS-4480-K9 to version 1.1(0) in a network that was posted prior to 12/5/2003. The procedure was updated, verified, and re-posted on 12/5/2003.

Problem Symptoms

If a GSS network is upgraded to 1.1(0) according to the wrong upgrade procedure, it is possible that DNS queries are responded to with the incorrect IP address, or 0.0.0.0. In some cases, other database errors may occur.

Workaround/Solution

GSS 1.1(1) has been posted to Cisco Connection Online (CCO) and does not require special upgrade instructions. If you need to upgrade to version 1.1(0), then please use the upgrade procedure posted on 12/5/2003.
