Cisco Aironet 1200 Series

Cisco Aironet AP1200: Failure to Power Up

Revised January 28, 2005

September 2, 2003

Products Affected

Serial Numbers

Sequential #

From FHK0717xxxxx To FHK0719xxxxx

Problem Description

The access point will stop functioning and will no longer power up.

Failures are due to a process change made by a component supplier. The process change resulted in a high infant mortality rate which can be aggravated by the installation of access points in high temperature environments. A specific serial number range has been identified but not all access points within that range contain these components.

Problem Symptoms

The access point will not power up when using power over Ethernet or local power. No light emitting diodes (LED) will light up. The access point will be totally inoperable.

Not all units manufactured within the serial number range contain the suspect parts. If your access point is operating correctly for four weeks after installation, this is a strong indication that the unit is not susceptible to this failure. Units that fail should be returned via the standard return materials authorization (RMA) process.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

The serial numbers that may be affected by this issue start with FHK0717 through FHK0719.

Units that contain 800-20367-07 or 800-20367-08 on the PCB and/or box have been updated and are not affected by this issue.
