Problem Description

Cisco Unity 2.x and 3.x required the "ViewMail for Outlook" class of service (COS) to be set for subscribers to use Unified Messaging. Cisco Unity 4.0 no longer requires a COS to be set for Unified Messaging subscribers

Background

In Unity 2.4.x and 3.x, Unity administrators have been selecting "ViewMail for Outlook" to define a subscriber as Unified Messaging enabled. In Unity 4.x, ViewMail for Microsoft Outlook is no longer controlled by a COS setting. All subscribers who have ViewMail for Outlook installed can use it. Customers who upgrade to Unity 4.0 are confused by the removal of this COS setting. They may set all of their subscribers to use the "Unity InBox" COS, which is intended for VMO users,thus putting the system in violation of the Unity InBox Licensing.

Problem Symptoms

Cisco Unity systems that exceed their licensed settings in the COS will stop taking calls after 4 hours. If the customer sets up the InBox COS for VMO users, but is not licensed for InBox users, their system will stop processing calls every 4 hours.

Workaround/Solution

VMO subscribers are no longer licensed in Cisco Unity 4.0. Any subscriber who had VMO installed can use it. CSCea26533 is resolved and verified for 4.01 and 4.02 docs.

The System Admin Guide (SAG) and SA help for 4.02 Client Setup chapter -- VMO upgrade section now states, "Subscribers are no longer required to have special class of service privileges or passwords to use ViewMail. Any subscriber who has ViewMail installed can use it."

COS chapter -- "Use the following table to learn more about COS features settings. If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Cisco Unity,note that subscribers are no longer required to have special class of service privileges to use ViewMail for Microsoft Outlook. Any subscriber who has ViewMail installed can use it." See the Cisco Unity page for further information.
