Intel Voice Boards, revision 2, for Cisco Unity products

Revision 2

Problem Description

If a Cisco Unity customer attempts to use this card in any system running Unity Version 3.x or lower, the card will not function due to the Dialogic Native Architecture (DNA) version 3.3.

Background

The revision 2 Intel D/120JCT-LS 12-port FXO PCI card was considered interchangeable with its predecessor, the revision 1 D/120JCT-LS. According to Intel, revision 2 was created to add "a new requirement for on-hook loop polarity detection for use in Japan." The board was also altered to operate in 3.3Vdc as well as 5Vdc PCI slots (universal PCI) and to function only with Intel Service Release (SR) Version 5.0.1 or greater.

The D/120JCT-LS 12, revision 2, is not compatible with Cisco Unity 3.x and lower because these versions not use Intel Service Release Version 5.0.1

Problem Symptoms

During a new install or when adding ports, the Unity/Dialogic software does not install. The software does not detect the voice cards. No ports appear in the Unity status monitor or the Dialogic DCM.

Workaround/Solution

If your system runs Unity 3.x or lower, you will need to use revision 1 of the voice boards or purchase direct from Cisco.

Unity version 4.0 will interoperate with revision 2 of the Intel Voice Board. Unity version 4.0 will be available at the end of calendar year 2002.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

Use the number "96" to identify the revision of the Intel voice board. Example: PCBA 96# = 96-0853-XXX
