Field Notice: 24 port 2950T, C and G Switch Support in BBSM

Revised June 26, 2002

June 20, 2002

Products Affected

New releases of the 2950-24 port class switch (specifically versions T, C & G) contain the new Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1. A new DLL must be installed in BBSM to allow it to interoperate with these new switches. The patches are available for BBSM software version 5.1 SP2 and version 5.1 SP3. The customer must be at either of these two revisions to apply the patch. Additional details, installation information and the BBSM patches are located at Cisco Software Download center on Cisco.c om for Cisco 48 port switches will be provided in BBSM v5.2. Support for the WS-C2950G-12-EI will require a separate patch. Please check back for availability, or contact Tim Trautman ( for schedule details.

Problem Description

BBSM fails to communicate with these new switches unless the new DLL is installed. All communication across these switches is halted. Please reference the Software Download section of to obtain this patch, in addition to the instructions for installing correctly. There are two separate DLLs which will need to be correctly applied to BBSM servers running SP2 or SP3.

For SP2 versions of BBSM, Install patch 1062. For SP3 versions of BBSM, install patch 1063.

If a customer upgrades from BBSM SP2 to SP3 after installing patch 1062, then patch 1063 must also be installed in order for the interface to the switch to function properly.

Note: If your 2950 series switch is running Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)WC2b or earlier, you should not install this patch. However, if you upgrade a 2950 switch from release 12.0 to 12.1 of Cisco IOS Software, you must install this patch. If you have both versions of Cisco IOS Software in your environment, use the guideline below to select the appropriate switch type.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0 or earlier

Cisco 2950-24

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1

Cisco 2950T-24
