Due to a bug in Java Plugin version 1.3.0, when certain signed certificates used to communicate between the client browser and various CiscoWorks server components (contained in CD One, 4th Edition or CWW 6.0) expire on January 6, 2002, some CiscoWorks functions will fail when run from a browser.

Problem Symptoms

Examples of CiscoWorks functions that will fail after the certificates expire are access to CiscoView, Telnet, Save, Save As, and Print.

It is mandatory that all customers running CD One, 4th edition download and install the patch containing the Java Plugin version 1.3.1 before January 6, 2002.

For RWAN 1.1 and LMS 1.1/2.0 customers only that are using nGenius Real-Time Monitor (RTM) 1.2, please order the RTM 1.3 Update Kit. The update kit (CWRTM-1.3-UPT) includes RTM 1.3 and the CD One, 4th Edition Java patches. RTM 1.2 is not compatible with these patch updates and will not be supported by the Cisco Technical Assistance Center. Please refer to the latest RWAN and LMS product bulletins below for more details on ordering the RTM 1.3 Update Kit.

Workaround/Solution for CWW Version 6.0

A time-based Java problem in CiscoWorks for Windows Version 6.0 began manifesting itself in January 2002. It is mandatory that all CiscoWorks for Windows Version 6.0 customers install this patch to ensure proper functionality.

This problem in the Java code (included in CiscoWorks for Windows Version 6.0) mishandles the user's request to grant new permissions. Without these permissions, the CiscoView tool may not be able to launch at all. The patch found at the link below corrects this problem. Other tools within CiscoWorks for Windows Version 6.0 are not affected by this problem and can continue to be used.

Refer to the CiscoWorks Server CD-One Patches Software Download Page (registered customers only) .

This patch should be installed immediately after the standard installation of CiscoWorks for Windows Version 6.0 is completed. In existing installations, this patch should be installed as soon as possible to maintain access to the full functionality of the CiscoView component.
