Problem Description

424Ms and 412Ms manufactured between December 2000 and January 2001 may exhibit some ICMP Echo Reply loss when pings are directed to the hub's IP address (CPU).

All other functions of the Hub are completely operational.

Background

Manufacturing replaced a soon to be obsolete EPLD PN 2032 with a new EPLD PN 2032A from the same vendor. This component change in manufacturing has been found to offer less than optimal performance in ping testing. Some pings directed to the 412M or 424M will not get a response.

Manufacturing reverted back to the EPLD PN 2032, once the ping issue was traced to the new EPLD. Manufacturing cut in EPLD PN 2032 on 2/13/01. Hubs having the following serial numbers or higher were manufactured with EPLD PN 2032.

Problem Symptoms

Customers sending pings to 424M or 412Ms may note that some percentage of pings may not get a response. One scenario where this may be noticed is when the "-t" ping option is utilized. Yet FastHub maintains full functionality and does not affect overall network performance.

Workaround/Solution

Most of the time, continuous ping is not a required function to keep the network operate properly. However, if customers need to utilize continuous ping function for network management/monitoring purpose, customers may request a return materials authorization (RMA) for replacement.

Follow customer's standard RMA process. Use the RMA code FNA (Field Notice Alert) to obtain replacements.
