Problem Description

In systems using the 15454-DS3XM-6= cards in a 1:1 Protection Group with Cerent Management System (CMS) version 2.0.0, 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 traffic can be lost if the ACTIVE DS3XM card is pulled from the shelf, or reset, without enacting a Manual/Force switch to the STANDBY card using the Graphical User Interface (GUI).

Background

This issue was revealed while performing regression testing in our labs.

Problem Symptoms

A loss of traffic can be caused if the ACTIVE DS3XM card in a 1:1 protection group is removed from the shelf, or reset, without performing a Manual/Force switch.

Workaround/Solution

This issue is isolated to version 2.0.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 using the 15454-DS3XM= card version 800-08720-02, rev A0 (and later). If you are using the versions above, please make sure to apply a Manual/Force switch on the ACTIVE DS3XM using the GUI prior to resetting or removing the card from the shelf.

This issue is fixed in version 2.1 or later of the CMS/CTC software. It is recommended that customers using versions prior to 2.1 request an upgrade to the lasted version of software. To perform a Manual/Force Switch:

From the Shelf View, Click on Maintenance Tab
From the Maintenance Tab, Click on Protection
From the Protection Tab, Select the Working/Active DS3XM card
From the "Operation" drop down list choose either Force or Manual.
