Cisco 6705

Release 1.3

Cisco 6732

Release 1.3

Problem Description

When using the system provisioning element management system (EMS), you will need additional software to recover the node IP address after it has been lost and the EMS host workstation TCP/IP properties are changed without recording the IP address.

Background

This condition exists only after the EMS host workstation TCP/IP properties are changed without recording the IP address for the EMS workstation and the system node. Cisco recommends that the user maintain logs or records of the network system node and EMS workstation IP addresses.

Problem Symptoms

EMS cannot call up system node for provisioning. The IP address is unidentifiable after the EMS host workstation TCP/IP properties are changed without record of the IP address for the EMS workstation and the system node.

Workaround/Solution

When the IP address is lost, you can use a third-party integrated analyzer software program to capture the IP address for recovery. In Cisco 6700 Series Release 1.3, there is no other method of recovery. Any other methods that may have been used to resolve this condition in Cisco 6700 Series releases prior to Release 1.3 are no longer valid.

Use the following steps to resolve the lost IP address condition within Cisco 6700 Series Release 1.3 chassis.

  1. Use a third-party integrated analyzer software program to find the Cisco 6732 or Cisco 6705 IP address.

  2. Connect the PC or workstation running the third-party integrated analyzer software program directly to the Cisco 6732 or Cisco 6705's local Ethernet segment. The analyzer software discovers the IP address of the attached 6700's main control card (MCC) or alarm maintenance and management (AMM) modules.

  3. Use this IP address to update EMS.

Note:? To speed up the process, reset the MCC after starting the integrated analyzer software program.
