Problem Description

All AIP boards with the Part Numbers CE-67-11-00002 or CE-67-11-00015 (All Revisions) have the possibility of shorting due to insufficient fusing.

This issue was originally reported in January 2000. This field notice is not an update, but a consolidation of information from various field notices that were published reporting issues with different revisions of the AIP. The list of affected parts was expanded to include the first revision of the AIP board (CE-67-11-00002) which were shipped with the original Cerent shelf assemblies.

With the release of 3.0, CTC software performs a check on the system to determine which revision of AIP is installed and will alarm the system if either of the two parts referenced above are installed.

Problem Symptoms

Potential failure to the AIP and loss of power to the shelf.

Cisco Systems is supporting a Class A upgrade to any AIP boards with the part number P/N CE-67-11-00002 and CE-67-11-00015.

The change-out of AIPs should be done by Cisco Customer Advocacy for all production systems. The customer should not remove or replace AIPs on production systems without Cisco Technical Support assistance or onsite Cisco personnel support. If the AIP replacement is done by a Cisco Customer Advocacy Representative, the replacement will not affect service. Please return all customer replaced AIPs taken from non-production systems to Cisco Systems.
