Remarks

MGX8220 with 4.0.15 and 4.0.17 Firmware

StrataView Plus 8.4.10, 9.0.02 and 9.1.02 and earlier are incompatible with this firmware.

Problem Description

The release of MGX8220 firmware versions 4.0.15 and 4.0.17 introduced a bug that prevents StrataView Plus 8.4.10 and earlier releases of 8.4 StrataView Plus Connection Manager and Equipment Manager from operating with the MGX8220. The same MGX8220 bug exists with StrataView Plus 9.0.02 and earlier and 9.1.02 and earlier.

Background

StrataView Plus messaging from the MGX8220 was changed with the introduction of firmware versions 4.0.15 and 4.0.17. Rather than revert to the old MGX8220 StrataView Plus message format with a newer MGX8220 firmware, StrataView Plus was updated to accommodate the new message format.

Problem Symptoms

The most obvious symptom is that the MGX8220 cards will appear as "grayed out" in the Equipment Manager application. Additionally, users will not be able to add, delete, or reconfigure connections via the Connection Manager application.

Workaround/Solution

There are two possible solutions. Each must be evaluated to determine which best suits the needs of the customer.

  1. Downgrade firmware on MGX8220 cards to 4.0.11 or previous releases.

  2. Upgrade StrataView Plus to 8.4.11 or later, 9.0.03 or later, or 9.1.03 or later.

Availability:

  • StrataView Plus 8.4.11 is available now (September 1, 1998).

  • StrataView Plus 9.0.03 and StrataView Plus 9.1.03 will be available by October 1998.
