The Versatile Interface Processor (VIP)models VIP2-10 and VIP2-15, and Fast Ethernet Interface Processor (FEIP) models CX-FEIP2-2TX and CX-FEIP2-2FX require additional memory when used with Cisco IOS? software version 12.0 and later.
These products currently have 8MB of DRAM (program memory). This has proven to be insufficient to operate with all versions of Cisco IOS 12.0 and later.
Note:?These products operate properly in all Cisco IOS releases prior to 12.0, including 11.1, 11.2, and 11.3. No memory upgrade is required for those releases.
The 8MB of DRAM available on current VIP2-10, VIP2-15, CX-FEIP2-2TX, and CX-FEIP2-2FX models is insufficient to operate with all versions of Cisco IOS 12.0 and later.
This upgrade does not apply to the following FEIPs:
The following VIP2 models are not affected:
If one of these interface processors is installed in your Cisco 7000 series or Cisco 7500 series router, and the router is running a Cisco IOS Release 12.0 software image, the following will display at system startup:
