This is a recommendation to upgrade from Cisco IOS 11.1(18)IA and 11.1(19)IA to 11.1(20)IA.

Problem Description

Because several server selection and Domain Name System (DNS)-related defects were discovered in DistributedDirector System Software releases 11.1(18)IA and 11.1(19)IA, all customers are strongly urged to upgrade their DistributedDirector units to Cisco IOS release 11.1(20)IA. These serious software defects, specified below, have been fixed in 11.1(20)IA.

Bug Fixes integrated in 18.2.IA:

  • CSCdk00817 Sev 2 - DNS server rejects backend server replies.

  • CSCdk01679 Sev 3 - DD crashes while processing queries when the server is removed.

Bug Fixes integrated in 19.1.IA:

  • CSCdk06155 Sev 3 - DD sort expression ACLs are case sensitive.

  • CSCdk07961 Sev 2 - DNS queries are sent at ports lower than 1024.

Bug Fixes integrated in 19.2.IA:

  • CSCdk10968 Sev 2 - DNSSEC packets are rejected.

  • CSCdk13743 Sev 2 - Selection process chooses wrong server.

  • CSCdk15000 Sev 2 - Wrong server selected.

Bug Fixes integrated in 11.1(20)IA:

  • CSCdk19537 Sev 2 - Selection incorrect if all metrics incomplete.

  • CSCdk20154 Sev 2 - Incorrect handling of double ties in selection.

Problem Symptoms

The following minor software defects were also fixed:

  • CSCdj82133 Sev 5 - Need counter for number of requeries sent to DRP agent by DistributedDirector (DD).

  • CSCdj82135 Sev 5 - Need counter for number of sorts with incomplete information.

  • CSCdj83596 Sev 4 - Cannot negate ip director host command with priority and weights value.

  • CSCdj94098 Sev 4 - Problem with show ip director host command.

  • CSCdj94099 Sev 3 - Incorrect NVGEN for drp-rtt probes command.

  • CSCdk00817 Sev 2 - DNS server rejects backend server replies.

  • CSCdk01679 Sev 3 - DD crashes while processing queries when the server is removed.

  • CSCdk06155 Sev 3 - DD sort expression access control lists (ACLs) are case-sensitive.

  • CSCdk07961 Sev 2 - DNS queries are sent at ports lower than 1024.

  • CSCdk10968 Sev 2 - DNSSEC packets are rejected.

  • CSCdk11522 Sev 3 - Portion metric always returns 4294967295.

  • CSCdk11526 Sev 4 - Default server portion metric not reported.

  • CSCdk11533 Sev 3 - no ip dir host foo.com port removes too much.

  • CSCdk11539 Sev 3 - no ip dir ser port 1 does not work.

  • CSCdk11578 Sev 4 - Reschedule connect intervals should cancel previous one.

  • CSCdk13743 Sev 2 - Selection process chooses wrong server.

  • CSCdk15000 Sev 2 - Wrong server selected.

  • CSCdk19537 Sev 2 - Selection incorrect if all metrics incomplete.

  • CSCdk20154 Sev 2 - Incorrect handling of double ties in selection.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco strongly recommends that customers using DistributedDirector specific Cisco IOS versions 11.1(18)IA and 11.1(19)IA upgrade immediately to Cisco IOS version 11.1(20)IA or later.

Special Note to DRP Metric Users

If you are using or planning to use Director Response Protocol (DRP) metrics, you should run Cisco IOS version 11.3(2)T or later on your routers while you run Cisco IOS version 11.1(20)IA on your DistributedDirectors.
