Introduction

This document describes the various levels of software available for the Content Services Switch 11501 (CSS 11501), and it shows how to determine the version of software that is running.

Prerequisites

Requirements

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • CSS 11501 in a lab environment with cleared configurations

  • The software version of code 7.30 build 203

The information in this document is used to understand the version command on the CSS 11500 series. Although a CSS 11501 running version 7.30 build 203 was used, the information equally applies to all version and platforms of the CSS except for the 11800. The use of these commands in a production network should not impact performance or operation of the CSS.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

How-To Determine the Version of Code Running on CSS11500

Step-by-Step

  1. The version command displays the software version that the CSS 11501 is running.

    nws-5-4# show version
    Version: sg0730203 (07.30.2.03)
    Flash (Locked): 05.29.1.14
    Flash (Operational): 07.30.2.03
    Type: PRIMARY
Licensed Cmd Set(s): Standard Feature Set
                         Enhanced Feature Set

These are explanations of the command output:

    • Version—The current WebNS software that is running on the CSS. In this case, it is sg0730203 (07.30.2.03) - [ 7.30 Build 203].

    • Flash (Locked)—The image that is installed at manufacturing time and should never be changed. This image is used as a fallback, if the CSS can not find an operational version of code in the NVRAM. In this case, it is Version 05.29.1.14 - [5.29 Build 114].

    • Flash (Operational)—The current operational version of WebNS software that is currently installed on the CSS. This is the code that is residing in the NVRAM (Flash) and that is loaded during the boot up process. In this case, it is Version 07.30.2.03 - [7.30 Build 203].

Note: This is only updated on major release upgrades, and this does not have to match the running software on the CSS.

    • Type—Indicates whether the CSS has booted from the primary boot configuration or from the secondary boot configuration. You can issue the show boot command to find this configuration information. This CSS has booted from the primary boot configuration.

This CSS has booted from the PRIMARY boot configuration.

      nws-5-4# show boot
      !************************ BOOT CONFIG ************************
      primary boot-file sg0730203
      primary boot-type boot-via-disk
    • Licensed Cmd Set(s)—A list of all the WebNS feature sets installed on the CSS. These can be standard, enhanced, Secure Shell Protocol (SSH), and proximity. As per the example command output, you can see that the standard and enhanced feature sets are installed.

  2. The show chassis flash command displays the contents of Flash.

    nws-5-4# show chassis flash
    Configuration for CSS11501 02:

    Product Name: CSS11501 02 SW Version: 07.30.2.03
Serial Number: JAB7654321CS Base Mac Address: 00-xx-9a-3a-xx-03

    Module Name Operational Locked
    CSS501-SCM-INT *07.30.2.03 05.29.1.14

These are explanations of the command output:

    • Name—The actual WebNS software that is running. In this case, it is Version 07.30.2.03 - [7.30 Build 203].

    • Serial Number—The serial number of the chassis. In this case, it is JAB7654321CS.

    • Base Mac Address—The core MAC of the CSS 11501. In this case, it is 00-xx-9a-3a-xx-03.

    • Operational—The code currently running on the CSS. In this case, it is Version 07.30.2.03 - [7.30 Build 203].

    • Locked—The installed fallback image that was installed during manufacturing. In this case, it is Version 05.29.1.14 - [5.29 Build 114].
