The Cisco Network Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is a programmable peer-to-peer sensor for network traffic analysis. The Cisco NTA software applies rules-based traffic analysis to network packets via user-defined signatures written in XML. The software is designed to provided Indications and Warnings (I&W) capabilities to large network environments through its sensor-to-sensor communication architecture. The software can also enable signature-triggered surveillance of network traffic that you can store on the sensor or securely transmit to remote logging systems known as loghost. The powerful signature file programming language is XML based and allows you to develop custom signature files to analyze IP network traffic.
