End of Sale Notice for NPE-200 and Cisco 7206 Chassis

With the introduction of the latest in high speed processors such as Network Processing Engine 300 (NPE-300), Cisco Systems announces the end of sale of the NPE-200 network processing engine for 7200 series routers and the Cisco 7206 chassis.

Upgrade Paths

The recommended upgrade path for the NPE-200 is the NPE-225. This network processing engine has a higher sustained throughput rate, offering higher performance for a lower price. The NPE-225 uses a high-performance 263 MHz RM5271 RISC processor, compared with the 200-MHz R5000 RISC processor of the NPE-200—a 32% increase in processing power. In addition, the NPE-225 supports additional caching and SDRAM memory capacity.

CISCO7206VXR is the recommended upgrade path for the CISCO7206. CISCO7206VXR has a faster backplane than the CISCO7206 (up to 1 GBPS versus 500 KBPS), and has integrated multi-service interchange (MIX) functionality.
