Product Overview

The Cisco ® Media Delivery Engine 3100 (MDE 3100) is part of the Cisco Enterprise Content Delivery System (ECDS), an overall media-delivery system that helps organizations easily scale video and media delivery over their WAN infrastructure. The Cisco MDE 3100 is a dedicated appliance that can run all the ECDS applications, including the Service Engine, Service Router, and CDS Manager. The Cisco MDE 3100 is an ideal media delivery platform for campus and data center deployments that require scalability for a large number of sites, users and clients. Multiple MDE 3100 may be stacked together to further scale deployments and achieve loadbalancing. The Cisco MDE 3100 provides 4 TB of total storage, including up to 3.8 TB for prepositioning and dynamic caching of the content. The Cisco MDE 3100 offers a base media license of 1 Gbps throughput and up to 2000 simultaneous streams. An additional upgrade license is available to increase the capacity to a total of 2 Gbps and 5000 simultaneous connections.
Figure 1 shows the Cisco MDE 3100.
