EOS/EOL Announcement for the Cisco Unity IBM Digital Audio Tape Drive

PRODUCT BULLETIN NO. 2658
Cisco Systems ® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco Unity IBM Digital Audio Tape (DAT) Drive. The last day to order this product is February 16, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until February 16, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Unity IBM DAT Drive. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead time.

End of Software Maintenance Releases Date

The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.

End of Routine Failure Analysis Date

The last-possible date a routine failure analysis may be performed to determine the cause of product failure or defect.

End of New Service Attachment Date

For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.

End of Service Contract Renewal Date

The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.

Last Date of Support

The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

The recommended replacement for the Cisco Unity IBM DAT Drive is the Cisco Media Convergence Server (MCS) internal non-hot-plug IBM DAT Drive or the Cisco External Super Digital Linear Tape (SDLT) Drive.
The Cisco MCS internal non-hot-plug IBM DAT Drive plugs into an available drive bay on Cisco Media Convergence Servers and offers 36 GB (uncompressed) or 72 GB (compressed) of backup storage capacity. The Cisco External SDLT Drive connects to an external Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) port on a Cisco MCS and offers 160GB (uncompressed) or 320GB (compressed) high-capacity, high-speed backup storage. (Refer to Table 3.)
