Cisco announces Cisco IOS® Software Release 15.2(2)S for Cisco® ME 3600X Series Ethernet Access Switches and Cisco ME 3800X Series Carrier Ethernet Switch Routers. This release advances Cisco's leadership role in the carrier Ethernet access and aggregation space by providing enhanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN capabilities. This new release introduces major product enhancements in quality of service (QoS); IPv4 and IPv6 services; Ethernet operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM); and security. This product bulletin contains content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 15.2(2)S.

New Features

Cisco IOS Release 15.2(2)S on the Cisco ME 3800X Series brings support for:

Y.1731 performance monitoring: With the introduction of this standard-based method of measuring delay and delay variations (ETH-DM) on the Cisco ME 3800X Series, carriers can monitor performance and report on service-level agreements (SLAs) based on an ITU standard.

Security enhancements: The platform is enhanced to provide access control list (ACL) capability on Ethernet virtual circuit (EVC) interfaces and filter traffic on Layer 2, IPv4, and IPv6 profiles. QoS access lists are also enhanced to support Layer 4 Port Number ACLs. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) functionality introduced in this new software release includes support for DHCP snooping and option 82 capability. To protect CPU and limit traffic flows to the processor, Control Plane Policing is introduced on the Cisco ME 3800X Series. To limit Layer 2 MAC address usage, this software version introduces MAC limiting functionality per VPLS Virtual Forwarding Instance (VFI) or per bridge domain.

Enhanced multicast: Multicast is enhanced in Release 15.2(2)S to support IGMP snooping over Port Bundles and IPv4 multicast support in VRF lite.

Simplified operation: To simplify operation of the switch and help service providers minimize Opex, this release introduces these new features: Cisco IOS Embedded Event manager (EEM) Release 4, Cisco Emergency licenses and QoS table map.
