Product Migration Options
The recommended replacement for Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.0 is Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.1. Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.1 delivers both promiscuous-based IDS and inline-based IPS capabilities to Cisco IDS/IPS sensors. Version 5.1 also delivers new capabilities that are not supported on the Version 5.0 software train, including threat rating for false alarm reduction; "inline·on-a-stick" to allow IPS services on multiple VLANs using a single interface on the IPS sensor; dynamic service port shutdown response actions; rate limiting response actions on managed devices (routers and switches); inspection of encapsulated traffic, including generic routing encapsulation (GRE) and Mobile IP in IP tunneling; signatures to protect from policy violation in SCADA networks; enhancements to network antivirus capabilities; Cisco EtherChannel
® load balancing (used with Cisco Catalyst
® 6500 Series switches) to scale IPS performance and to delivery IPS redundancy; and enhanced embedded management (IPS Device Manager). Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.1 will operate only on Cisco IDS/IPS sensors with the following part numbers: IDS-4210, IDS-4210-K9, IDS-4215·4FE-K9, IDS-4235-K9, IDS-4250-SX-K9, IDS-4250-TX-K9, IDS-4250-XL-K9, IPS-4240-K9, IPS-4255-K9, and NM-CIDS-K9 (promiscuous mode only), IDSM2, ASA-SSM-AIP-10-K9= and ASA-SSM-AIP-20-K9=.
