Cisco announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco IPS 4270 Sensor. The last day to order the affected product(s) is April 30, 2013. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product(s). Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement. For customers with active and paid service and support contracts, support will be available until the termination date of the contract, even if this date exceeds the Last Date of Support shown in Table 1.
The venerable Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensors are reaching the end of their natural life cycle, and Cisco has provided hardware-enhanced replacements with expanded functionality and performance while retaining familiar but enhanced management capabilities.

Cisco IPS solutions have signature updates associated with their ongoing maintenance, and this signature update has its own end-of-life milestone. Signature support for the IPS 4200 Series, including the IPS 4270, ends on April 30, 2016. The Cisco IPS 4270 was the prior highest-end dedicated appliance. With the introduction of the IPS 4300 series or consideration of the ASA 5585-10 with IPS, Cisco provides three performance-enhanced replacements with a reduced operational cost.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to either a dedicated IPS appliance in the form of the IPS 4345/IPS 4360 or the integrated firewall/IPS solution found in the ASA 5585-10 with the IPS option. Customers may be able to use the Cisco Technology Migration Program (TMP) where applicable to trade-in eligible products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment.
