PRODUCT BULLETIN NO. 2284

The NM-4T1-IMA, NM-4E1-IMA, NM-8T1-IMA, and NM-8E1-IMA network modules were introduced for the Cisco 2600
and 3600 Series in 1999. These multi-port ATM modules allow service provider and enterprise customers to
cost-effectively increase bandwidth and extend multiservice capabilities to remote branch office locations through ATM. Cisco is announcing the End-of-Sales of these network modules, with a last sale date of March 31, 2004.

RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS FOR NM-4T1-IMA AND NM-4E1-IMA

The recommended replacement product is the Advanced Integration Module for ATM (AIM-ATM) together with the T1/E1 Voice WAN Interface Cards (VWICs). A single AIM-ATM module supports up to 4 T1/E1 ports. In platforms with two AIM slots, two
AIM-ATM modules can be used. T1/E1 VWICs are available with a density of 1 or 2 ports.
The AIM-ATM allows flexible configuration of ATM ports. Depending on the requirements, between one and four ports can be used per AIM-ATM. The AIM-ATM has improved features and functionality, and similar performance levels to the NM-4T1-IMA and
NM-4E1-IMA. In addition, the AIM-ATM solution together with VWICs does not require a Network Module (NM) slot, which can be used for other advanced services.

RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS FOR NM-8T1-IMA AND NM-8E1-IMA

The recommended replacement for applications that require eight T1 or E1 ATM IMA ports is the PA-A3-8T1IMA or PA-A3-8E1IMA in the Cisco 7200 or Cisco 7400 platform, especially if IMA groups of five ports or more are required. For feature comparison see table below.

Note: For applications that require eight T1/E1 ATM IMA ports but not more than four ports per IMA group, two AIM-ATMs with four VWICs can be used. The Cisco 2691 and the Cisco 3700 series have two AIM slots and each slot can carry an AIM-ATM modules. As the platforms have three WIC slots only, in addition a WIC carrier module (NM-2W, NM-1FE2W-V2, NM-2FE2W-V2, or NM-1FE1R2W) is required.
