DETAILED INFORMATION

New Software

Dynamic DNS

The Dynamic DNS feature provides a form of dynamic DNS update that is compatible with several proprietary HTTP-based protocols. It also provides the IETF standard Dynamic DNS Update method. There are many HTTP-based protocols; the most notable is DynDNS.org.
Dynamic DNS updates can be configured for any type of interface over which IPv4 is running. When the IPv4 address is configured (via manual, Dynamic Host Control Protocol [DHCP], or Point-to-Point Protocol [PPP], for example), the update will be triggered.
This new feature provides a command-line interface (CLI) that allows configuration of the update method, including the HTTP interaction to use, server address, type of update, and forced update timer.

No Service Password Recovery

This feature is a security enhancement that prevents anyone with access to the console port from entering into ROMmon and clearing the password on the router. This also prevents anyone from changing the config register and accessing NVRAM at the ROMMON prompt.
A new Cisco IOS CLI is added for Cisco 800 and Cisco SOHO 90 series routers, which helps in disabling the "service password-recovery" in the router.
A new ROMmon is required to use this feature. Please refer to the release notes for more information.

Bridge MIB for Hotspot Application

Bridge MIB, extracted from RFC 1493, defines objects for managing MAC bridges between LAN segments. Object groups supported include dot1dBase, dot1dStp, and dot1dTp, which deal with information regarding various ports of the bridge, Spanning Tree Protocol, and transparent bridging.
