Cisco Prime Network Registrar Ordering Information

This section provides detailed information on product components and support for ordering purposes.

Cisco® Commerce Workspace is located at https://cisco-apps.cisco.com/cisco/psn/commerce. Using this tool, in the Find Products area, enter Prime Network Registrar or the SKU into the search field and click the Search button. On the next page, click Select for the desired product and enter the quantity (note the default is 1 (one)) for either R-PRIME-NWK-REG, PRIME-NWK-REG, or PRIMEREGDNSCSH-K9=.

Next, click the Add button in the Selected Items box to add the product to the order. You can now select options for specific DHCP, DNS, or IPAM licenses on the next page.

Cisco Prime Network Registrar offers a combination of DHCP, DNS, and IPAM services that can be ordered or purchased individually or as a suite. The Cisco Prime Network Registrar DNS Caching Server is only available for sale as an individual component and is not currently offered as part of a suite.

First-time customers can order any of the items from Table 1.

Cisco Prime Network Registrar IPAM is sold as a separate license under Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.1. Upgrade licenses for Cisco Prime Network Registrar IPAM will be made available in subsequent releases.

Licensing Information

Cisco Prime Network Registrar DHCP and DNS (Authoritative) are licensed based on the number of IP node leases (for DHCP) or zone resource records (RRs) (for DNS) being supported. Cisco Prime Network Registrar IPAM license counts are based on the number of active IP addresses, meaning those IPv4 and IPv6 addresses that are defined as type static, ADHCP, and MDHCP, and those Distributed DHCP (DDHCP) addresses with active leases.

For any individual component (except the DNS Caching Server) and any suite, users must first order a base license, which includes the software media kit and a license for 1000 IP leases/RRs/active IP addresses. If the network has more than 1000 IP leases/RRs/active IP addresses, users must order additional licenses to cover the remaining IP nodes/RRs/active IP addresses. Similarly, when upgrading to Cisco Prime Network Registrar, users can upgrade the Base license and then add additional licenses as necessary.

For the two suites, the license count applies to each service; for example, for the Cisco Prime Network Registrar DD Base license, the Base license covers 1000 IP leases for DHCP and 1000 RRs for DNS.

For additional licenses above the base 1000 IP leases/RRs/active IP addresses, the two suites (Cisco Prime Network Registrar DD and Cisco Prime Network Registrar DDi) use the “IP node” terminology (where one IP node equals a combination of one DHCP IP lease and four DNS authoritative resource records).

DHCP and DNS authoritative licenses are shared across a customer deployment; for example, features such as redundancy and total license count can be spread across any number of local clusters on as many servers as needed. Again, except for the DNS Caching Server, Cisco Prime Network Registrar is not licensed on a per server basis. In addition, licensing is separate from high availability or failover, which are configuration issues. The network administrator will issue through the regional server whatever numbers of licenses are needed per local server/cluster. For example, for redundant DNS or DHCP servers, it is not required that each use exactly half of the RR/IP lease count. The network administrator can determine and set the RR/IP lease license count for each, mapping to the specific needs of each. For IPAM redundancy, duplicate licensing is not required.

For the DNS Caching Server, users will need a separate license for each server or virtual machine. Customers running virtualized environments will require a unique license for each running instance of the DNS Caching Server.

New Ordering Rules

The following changes became effective beginning with Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.0.

New Packaging

Creating a regional cluster is required when installing Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.1. The regional cluster can be installed on a separate server or on the same local server if installed in a separate virtual machine. All license keys are activated and managed through the regional cluster; for example, the regional server is responsible for counting deployed licenses among the various local clusters. Each assigned IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or IPv6 prefix delegation counts as one IP node regardless of whether used by the same or different clients. IPv6 prefix delegations are counted as one IP node.

The regional cluster manages and monitors the local clusters through its cluster management capability. Cluster management allows central management of address spaces and global protocol server configuration, such as policies, client classes, and scope templates.

Upgrade Policy

Only customers running Cisco Network Registrar 7.0 or later are offered upgrade pricing through the upgrade product numbers when upgrading to Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.x.

Cisco Prime Network Registrar Product Component Part Numbers

Table 3 lists part numbers for the Cisco Prime Network Registrar components and Table 4 lists upgrade product numbers. Table 5 lists the Cisco Prime Network Registrar Jumpstart (appliance) product numbers.

Cisco Prime Network Registrar customers are able to choose their preferred method of software license document and software application delivery - physical or electronic.

With the electronic delivery option, the customer receives electronic fulfillment of both software and license entitlement documentation through a self-service portal. To leverage the eDelivery option, customers must use the eDelivery Top Level Configuration Product ID (PID) listed below (R-PRIME-NWK-REG). For a particular order, once this top level eDelivery PID is entered into the ordering system, any product option PID will automatically adopt eDelivery as well. Conversely, for orders in which the physical delivery top level ordering PID is selected (PRIME-NWK-REG), any product option PID will automatically adopt physical delivery as well.

How to Order Cisco Prime Network Registrar

To place an order, visit the Cisco Ordering Homepage. See Tables 3-5 for a list of Cisco Prime Network Registrar product numbers and upgrade product numbers. To download software, visit the Cisco Software Center.

New Customers

A new Cisco Prime Network Registrar customer needs to order a base license, which covers 1000 IP leases and resource records and an additional license or licenses for the number of IP leases/RRs beyond 1000. These product numbers are in Table 3.

Example 1: Ordering the local cluster

A customer wants to deploy Cisco Prime Network Registrar to manage DNS and DHCP services for 10,000 IP nodes in the customer’s network. The bill of materials (BOM) for this order consists of the Base license and the 10,000 add-on license.

Upgrades

Cisco Network Registrar users may wish to upgrade to Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.1. The customer needs to upgrade the Base license, and, if necessary, upgrade the number of IP nodes beyond 1000.

Example 2: Upgrading

A customer currently using Cisco Network Registrar 7.0, 7.1, or 7.2 wants to deploy Cisco Prime Network Registrar 8.1 to manage DNS and DHCP services for 100,000 IP nodes in the network.
