Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution (LMS) delivers powerful network lifecycle management by simplifying the configuration, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Cisco networks. This innovative solution offers end-to-end management for business critical technologies and services, such as, medianet, TrustSec, and EnergyWise. Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 improves the overall user experience and continues to provide new workflows that are built on functional partitioning and that align the product with the way network operators do their jobs. Once installed, prepackaged monitoring and troubleshooting dashboards provide actionable information to quickly isolate and fix network problems before they affect services.

Configuring and deploying updates to the network has never been easier with the Template Center, which now incorporates Cisco Smart Business Architecture (SBA) templates that are based upon Cisco Validated Designs, simplifying platform and technology rollout and reducing the chance for errors. Work Centers provide a single area where guided workflows give step-by-step instructions to help operators quickly provision, monitor, and manage new Cisco value-added technologies and solutions, such as medianet, EnergyWise, TrustSec/Identity, Auto Smartports, and Smart Install.

New Features

Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 comes with a new Cisco Prime user experience that promotes real-time actionable information with an intuitive set of predefined dashboards. In addition to the functionality delivered in previous versions of LMS, significant new enhancements and features are being delivered in the LMS 4.1 release. A summary of the new functional areas can be found in Table 1. New Licensing Structure

Cisco Prime LMS uses a size-based licensing model where pricing is based upon the number of managed devices. Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 now supports an incremental license model to accommodate the needs of growing businesses. Customers no longer have to purchase a discrete license tier larger than their actual needs, or budget for large jumps from one tier to the next. New part numbers are being introduced to provide better linearity in sizing and support for incremental licenses. Refer to Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4 for details.

Product Upgrades and Data Migration

Upgrades are available for existing 2.x and 3.x LMS customers at a substantial discount to help protect prior investment made in CiscoWorks LMS. New purchased licenses (Product Authorization Keys [PAKs]) will be issued for all upgrade orders, and customers will be required to register and apply these new license keys to their servers once the Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 software is installed.
Migrating data to LMS 4.1:

• LMS 4.1 supports local upgrade or direct inline upgrade only from LMS 4.0 and LMS 4.0.1

• LMS 3.2, and LMS 3.2 SP1 customers can do remote upgrade through LMS back and restore mechanism

• LMS 3.1, LMS 3.0, LMS 3.0 December 2007 Update, LMS 2.6 and LMS 2.6 Service Pack 1 customers need to do a remote upgrade to LMS 4.0 and then install LMS 4.1

Product Availability and Updates

Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 will be available for ordering on August 8, 2011. Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 is a minor product release and is covered under existing Software Application Support (SAS) contracts. End of sale will be announced for the CiscoWorks LMS 4.0 and LMS 4.0.1 products once Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 is available. The CiscoWorks LMS 4.0 product will continue to be sold for a minimum of six months as per Cisco policy. For more information refer to the CiscoWorks LMS 4.0 end-of-sales announcement.

Note: With the introduction of the Linux-based Virtual Appliance in this release, future releases of Cisco Prime LMS will no longer include support for Solaris operating systems. It is highly recommended that customers using the Solaris version of this product consider validating the Virtual Appliance version to facilitate future transition.

Ordering Information

Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 uses a size-based incremental licensing model. Whether you have 50 or 10,000 Cisco devices, ordering Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 to fit your network requirements is easy and simple. Order the appropriate part number from Tables 2 through 6 based on the number of Cisco devices to be managed. Device licenses can be combined and added when applied to a single server installation instance. Customers have the option of adding incremental licenses for additional devices as their network grows. The maximum number of devices supported on a single server deployment is 5000; any increment may be purchased up to the 5000 device limit. Customers who purchase licenses for10,000 devices have the option of distributing this single license over a multiserver deployment as long as the total device count does not exceed 10,000 devices. Evaluation Software

Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 evaluation software can be downloaded from http://www.cisco.com/go/nmsevals. If the product is downloaded and installed, an evaluation license is installed by default entitling the user to 90 days of use for 100 devices until the purchased license PAK is applied.
