Q. What is the CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution?
A. The CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution (LMS) is an integrated suite of applications for administrating, monitoring, and troubleshooting Cisco ® networks. It provides IT organizations the solid foundation of infrastructure-management capabilities that is needed to efficiently manage business-critical networks. It complements the CiscoWorks Family of products. Other products in the CiscoWorks Family include:

• CiscoWorks IP Telephony Environment Monitor (ITEM), ensuring the readiness and manageability of converged networks that support voice over IP (VoIP) and IP telephony traffic and applications.

• CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution (VMS), providing an integrated set of Web applications with features that assist in the deployment and monitoring of VPN and security devices.

• CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE), helping enable advanced wireless access-point and radio-management capabilities.

The CiscoWorks Family provides comprehensive network-management solutions that improve the effectiveness of your IT organizations through task automation and ease of use, while increasing network resiliency and security through proactive planning and integration.
The CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution (LMS) is a collection of powerful management applications that provide configuration, administration, monitoring, fault detection, and troubleshooting tools for campus networks. It includes applications for managing LAN switching and routing environments.
Q. Which applications are in CiscoWorks LMS 2.5?
A. CiscoWorks LMS 2.5 contains the following applications:

• CiscoWorks Campus Manager-CiscoWorks Campus Manager is a suite of Web-based applications designed for managing networks powered by Cisco switches. These include Layer 2 device and connectivity discovery, workflow application-server discovery and management, detailed topology views, virtual LAN/LAN Emulation (VLAN/LANE) and ATM configuration, end-station tracking, Layer 2 and 3 path-analysis tools, and IP phone user and path information.

• CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager-CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager provides real-time fault analysis for Cisco devices. It generates "intelligent Cisco traps" through a variety of data collection and analysis techniques. These can be locally displayed, e-mailed, or forwarded to other popular event-management systems.

• CiscoWorks Internetwork Performance Monitor- Internetwork Performance Monitor (IPM) is a network response-time and availability troubleshooting application. This tool empowers network engineers to proactively troubleshoot network performance using real-time and historical reports.

• CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials (RME)-CiscoWorks RME provides the tools needed to manage Cisco devices. It includes inventory and device change management, network-configuration and software-image management, network availability, and syslog analysis.

• CiscoWorks CiscoView-CiscoView is a Web-based tool that graphically provides real-time status of Cisco devices. The tool can display detailed monitoring information on interfaces and access configuration functions.

• CiscoWorks Management Server-The CiscoWorks Management Server provides the common management desktop services and security across the CiscoWorks Family of solutions. It also provides the foundation for integrating with other Cisco and third-party applications.

Q. Are software-support contracts available and how are they ordered?
A. Yes. You can purchase a one (1) year Software Application Support (SAS) contract that provides Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support, access to software maintenance patches on Cisco.com Software Center, and CiscoWorks LMS minor update releases.
Q. Can individual applications within CiscoWorks LMS be purchased?
A. No. These CiscoWorks applications are sold only as bundled solutions.
Q. How can CiscoWorks LMS 1.X customers purchase CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager?
A. CiscoWorks LMS 1.X customers who want to purchase CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager should upgrade to CiscoWorks LMS 2.5. This release includes the newest version of CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager and can be ordered through normal Cisco sales channels using part numbers CWLMS-2.5-RUP-K9 or CWLMS-2.5-URUP-K9.
