Cisco ® Application Networking Manager (ANM) software is part of the Cisco Application Control Engine (ACE) product family. It is a critical component of any data center or cloud computing architecture that requires centralized configuration, operation, and monitoring of Cisco data center networking equipment and services. It also provides operations management for the Cisco application delivery controller (ADC) infrastructure, which includes not only Cisco ACE but also the Cisco Content Services Switch (CSS), Cisco Content Switching Module (CSM), Cisco CSM with SSL (CSM-S), and Cisco Global Site Selector (GSS).
Cisco ANM 4.3 enhances Cisco ANM's highly effective operations capabilities with features such as object grouping, improved role-based access control (RBAC) reporting and user information exporting. See Figure 1.

Using Cisco ANM to manage Cisco ADC infrastructure provides a number of benefits:

• Increases productivity by helping you delegate tasks beyond networking and operations staff. For example, it facilitates services deployment by even Tier 1 operators while providing full configuration capabilities for advanced engineers.

• Decreases risk of service outages due to syntax or processing errors.

• Reduces configuration sprawl by helping you standardize device configuration.

• Reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) by providing a single interface for provisioning, operations, maintenance, and monitoring across multiple systems

New Features

Object Grouping

Cisco ANM 4.3 includes the new group feature that allows you to create groups of the following objects: real servers, virtual servers, GSS virtual IP (VIP) answers, or GSS Domain Name System (DNS) rules. The group feature allows you to display and manage a specific group of ANM objects without having to filter the object display. When creating a group, you specify whether the group is available to just you or is available globally to all Cisco ANM users. For more information about the grouping feature, see the following sections in the User Guide for the Cisco Application Networking Manager 4.3:

RBAC Reporting and Export Enhancement

Cisco ANM 4.3 allows you to include the domain objects available to the user when exporting user information to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. For more information, see the " Displaying a List of Users" section of the User Guide for the Cisco Application Networking Manager 4.3.

Automatic ACE High-Availability Pair Selection When Configuring an RBAC Domain

With Cisco ANM 4.3, when you add objects such as real servers to a domain on an ACE that has a high-availability (HA) peer, Cisco ANM automatically adds the redundant objects from the HA peer to the list of selected objects. You configure and edit domains from the Domain window (Admin > Role-Based Access Control > Organization > Domains).

View All Options in the Operations Window Listing

With Cisco ANM 4.3, the Operations windows (Config > Operations) for virtual servers, real servers, GSS VIP answers, and GSS DNS rules contain a rows per page option that includes an All setting for displaying all related configured items in one window. Use the All setting for viewing purposes only; it is limited to operations with 200 or fewer items.

Complete Device Command-Line Interface Audit Log

Cisco ANM 4.3 increases the character limit for the audit log detail display (Config > device(s) to view > Device Audit) from 4000 to 100,000. The Detail field contains command-line interface (CLI) commands sent to the device and error messages. You can view the complete audit output in the audit log file beyond 100,000 characters.

Retain ANM Users When Uninstalling ANM Server

Cisco ANM 4.3 allows you to retain anm and anm-mysql Linux user accounts for a subsequent Cisco ANM server installation. These users are created on the Linux file system during the previous installation of ANM; they are not the user accounts that are used to log in to Cisco ANM. If you have local custom scripts based on the user IDs of these Linux user accounts, you can preserve them to avoid having to remap them after performing a Cisco ANM upgrade. Monitoring Dashboard Displays GSS VIP Answers and DNS Rules

Cisco ANM 4.3 displays all configured GSS VIP answers and DNS rules in the Device Configuration Summary table of the Monitoring Dashboard (Monitor > Devices > Groups > All Devices > Dashboard). This table displays the total number of configured VIP answers and DNS rules and their operating state.

Alarm Notifications for Device Status and HA Redundancy State Changes

Cisco ANM 4.3 can generate a threshold alarm when a virtual context HA fault tolerant (FT) state changes or when the device status of an ACE 10, ACE 20, or ACE 30 module or an ACE 4710 appliance changes. You configure these new alarm notifications from the Threshold Groups window (Monitor > Alarm Notifications > Threshold Groups).

Dedicated Screen Polling Status

Cisco ANM 4.3 includes the new Polling Status window (Monitor > Settings > Polling Status), which displays the polling status of the devices that Cisco ANM manages. Because ACE devices are partitioned into virtual contexts that can be polled individually, the Polling Status window displays the status of each ACE virtual context. From this window, you have the option to restart polling to a virtual context or device that currently has polling disabled.

New Web Services APIs

Cisco ANM 4.3 includes additional APIs that allow you to activate, suspend, and retrieve a list of ACE virtual servers, GSS VIP answers, and GSS DNS rules. For more information about the Cisco ANM API set, see the API Reference Guide for Cisco Application Networking Manager 4.3.

Product Availability

• Cisco ANM Server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux: Cisco ANM servers can be run on supported 64- and 32-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

• Cisco ANM Virtual Appliance for VMware: The virtual appliance is run as a virtual machine in a VMware 4.0 or 4.1 environment. There is no change to the Cisco ANM user's web interface, nor does the use of this appliance affect the way that Cisco ANM manages network devices. When deployed, this appliance is nearly identical to Cisco ANM run on a standalone Linux server; it is a complete computing system, including the application and operating system and an interface similar to the Cisco IOS® Software interface for administration functions such as backing up and restoring the system and configuring Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) properties.

The Cisco ANM virtual appliance is interchangeable with the Cisco ANM server. This interchangeability makes the appliance easy to deploy and scale; allows more efficient utilization of hardware resources; and eliminates the need to acquire, install, and maintain the operating system separately. The installation files for the Cisco ANM Virtual Appliance for VMware are provided in the same package as those for Cisco ANM Server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

• Cisco ANM open orderability: To simplify deployment and help ensure that all Cisco ACE customers can gain the advantages of the Cisco ACE portfolio, including Cisco ANM capabilities, the Cisco ANM 4.3 software is offered free of charge. Existing Cisco ANM server licenses will fulfill the licensing requirements for customers upgrading to Cisco ANM 4.3. No additional licensing beyond that for the base Cisco ANM server software is required.

Upgrade Paths

Cisco ANM 4.3 supports upgrades on the same server from all versions of Cisco ANM 3.0. Customers upgrading from Cisco ANM 1.1, 1.2, and 2.0 must first upgrade to Cisco ANM 3.0 before migrating to Cisco ANM 4.3.
Customers upgrading on Cisco ANM Server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux must follow the instructions provided in the Installation Guide for Cisco Application Networking Manager 4.3 with respect to server and operating system requirements.
Customers upgrading to Cisco ANM Virtual Appliance for VMware must follow the instructions provided in the Installation Guide for Cisco Application Networking Manager 4.3 with respect to VMware virtual machine requirements.
All existing Cisco ANM customers are eligible to upgrade without charge to Cisco ANM 4.3. All Cisco ANM server licenses (ANM-SERVER-xx-K9) from Cisco ANM 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, and 3.0 fulfill the licensing requirements for upgrades. Customers with Cisco ANM 1.2, 2.0, and 3.0 licenses can reuse their current Cisco ANM licenses when upgrading to Cisco ANM 4.3 on the same server platform. Customers wanting to rehost their Cisco ANM on a different server platform or to move to Cisco ANM Virtual Appliance for VMware should contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or Global Licensing Operations as usual to ask for a replacement Cisco ANM license PAK to rehost their existing license at the new server and appliance address.

Ordering Information

Cisco ANM 4.3 is offered for order at no charge, although it does still require licensing. The Cisco ANM server software license always must be ordered to receive the license necessary to install the product for production use, and Cisco Software Application Support requires a separate purchase. Table 1 lists the Cisco ANM 4.3 license available for ordering .The license level ordered for all Cisco ANM 4.0 versions is Cisco ANM 4.0.
