Crossed-out Wheelie Bin Statement

EU WEEE and Battery Directives

The European Union (EU) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (EU WEEE Directive) requires producers of electrical and electronic equipment to finance the takeback and recycling of their products.

Cisco products in scope of the EU WEEE Directive are labelled with a crossed-out "wheelie-bin" symbol as required by this directive. The symbol indicates that end users should segregate the product from other waste at end-of- life.

This symbol on Cisco product or its packaging means that the product should not be disposed of with your other household waste. It is your responsibility to dispose of your waste equipment separately from the municipal waste stream. The correct disposal of your end-of-life equipment will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health.

Cisco endeavors to reduce the environmental and human health effects of electrical and electronic equipment at the time it is being discarded and offers its customers the Cisco Takeback and Reuse Program. This program is designed specifically for end-of-use equipment to be returned to Cisco. Returned equipment will be reused or recycled by Cisco, supporting our sustainability and circular economy objectives.

If you require an understanding of when your Cisco product was manufactured, the serial number code is as follows:

  • FFFYYWWSSSSS
  • FFF: Factory Code
  • YY: Year code
  • WW: Week code
  • SSSSS: Serial number

If your serial number does not fit this pattern please contact environment@cisco.com for assistance.
