WLAN Migration Path

Like all technology, Wireless LAN is constantly developing - offering advancements in speed, bandwidth, security and more. But does this mean your investment today will be obsolete tomorrow?

Fortunately not. Because the Cisco Aironet 1200 series is compatible with existing technologies - and more than capable of handling the future.

Initially supporting the IEEE 802.11b Standard, Cisco Aironet 1200 products' modular, field-upgradeable dual radio design enables it to support a single frequency band, 2.4 GHz (IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g, when available) or 5 GHz (802.11a), or both bands simultaneously. In order to support all three standards, the Access Point has both a mini PCI and a card bus slot.

The Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point preserves previous investments in wireless technology, because it continues to support 802.11b standard Client Adapters. At the same time, it provides a smooth migration path to future, even faster technologoies such as 802.11a and 802.11g. Users with Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Client Adapters can link to the same Access Point with data transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps.

Wireless migration options
The growth of wireless has recently led to a critical juncture in the advancement of the technology.

IEEE 802.11b, the most widely deployed wireless standard, operates in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed radio band and delivers a maximum data rate of 11 Mbps. Some organizations are clamouring for products that will deliver even greater throughput, access, and functionality for their rapidly growing numbers of wireless users. Wireless vendors are responding.

IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g are two new higher-performance standards. Customers should learn about the benefits and limitations of each wireless standard, before deciding which technology or technologies are best suited to their specific wireless network requirements.

It's easy to put off purchases, thinking that you'll wait until the next generation. But Cisco Aironet 1200 is offering you a chance to future-proof, by being compatible with both future standards.
