Fundamentals of UNIX® teaches students how to use UNIX operating system commands and introduces them to CDE, GNOME, and KDE graphical user interfaces (GUI). The course has been designed for 70 hours and is intended for new users of UNIX operating environment. An overview of the Sun Solaris and Linux versions of the UNIX operating system is also provided.

Students will learn fundamental command-line features of UNIX including file system navigation, changing file permissions, the vi and emacs text editors, Korn and Bash shell features, and basic network use. Topics such as GUI features including Application Managers, File Managers, Text Editors, printing and mail are also included. This course is scheduled to be retired on July 1, 2006.
