Q: What is the Cisco Networking Academy Program?
A: The Cisco Networking Academy Program is an educational program, which prepares graduates for networking and IT-related jobs in the public and private sector. Participating Academies will become part of a global public private partnership alliance, which has reached approximately 10,000 educational institutions in over 150 countries. Close to 1,000,000 students have successfully completed networking and other IT courses offered as a part of the diverse Academy curricula.

A: Cisco not only provides the best networking technology available, but also the industry's leading IT education program. The Program adopts an eLearning model that delivers Web-based educational content, online testing, student performance tracking, hands-on labs and instructor training and support.

Q: What courses does the Academy offer?
A: Academies in Asia Pacific offer a range of courses for a variety of careers in network design and administration, technical support, program or software engineering, database development and administration and computer related support environments.

Q: How many graduates are there in Asia Pacific?
A: There are over 60,000 IT graduates in Asia Pacific. The Cisco Networking Academy program teaches comprehensive internet and technology skills to students in Schools, Universities and Colleges around the world.

Q: What is Career Connection?
A: Career Connection is a Cisco initiative that provides job placement, internships and career development services to Academy students and alumni worldwide by building links to public and private sector organisations. Career Connection is one benefit part of the Alumni Connection program, which is designed to provide a range of benefits and services which will impact upon the lives of the Alumni.

Q: How does it work?
A: Career Connection links Alumni of the Academies through three ways:
  1. Recruitment agencies that have partnered with the Academy Program
  2. Online career board and career development content
  3. Direct to the Academies through the Academy Locater
All organisations have access to Academy students, graduates and alumni of the Program to offer jobs and internship opportunities. More information on services is currently available at www.cisco.com/go/acadgrad/recruitCommunication to the Alumni will be through the Alumni website and direct communications. And, Career Connection is only available to registered Alumni.

Q: What types of services are recruitment agencies providing to Alumni?
A: 
  1. Priority interviews with Agency consultants and/or email support that includes resume advice, assessment for personal development skills, job search advice and training/support in job searching techniques
  2. Source work experience/internships vacancies for Alumni
  3. Host recruitment events, job fairs, seminars and promotions for Alumni
  4. Updated on industry information, including employment statistics and trends
  5. Provide information on the full range of career opportunities available to students who have completed courses within the Cisco Networking Academy Program

Q: How does an employer register for Career Connection?
A: Employers just need to go to www.cisco.com/go/acadgrad/recruit to register for Career Connection or contact the recruitment agencies listed on the site.

Q: Are there any fees for employers to utilise these services?
A: There are no fees associated with the self-service Career Connection job board. Affiliated recruitment agencies will offer discounts to Cisco Partners and customers and other employers on a case-by-case basis.

Q: What kind of qualifications and skills does an Academy graduate have?
A:  The Academy Curriculum combines hands-on labs with face-to-face instruction to prepare students for CCNA and CCNP certification as well as other industry recognised certifications in UNIX, Java, Data Cabling, and IT Essentials, Security and Wireless, depends on which curriculum the graduate has completed.

Academy graduates spend 40% of their curriculum time putting their skills into practice in the lab. For example, in the case of CCNA graduates, the labs sessions include designing, building and maintaining computer systems of a variety of types and complexities. In addition, they have outside-the-box thinking skills developed through simulated business challenges.

Q: Who qualifies as an Alumnus?
A: All registered students who that have successfully completed any one course in the Cisco Networking Academy Program.

Q: Is the service available to students or graduates who have not attended the Academy program?
A: Career Connection is a tool developed for the Academy program and it is available only to Academy students and graduates who have registered as Alumni. Access to the Career Connection site requires an Academy ID and password for student and graduate access.

Q: Can any organisation benefit from this service?
A: Yes, any organisation that requires candidates with IT skills and qualifications can use Career Connection. Organisations will be asked to complete a profile prior to being provided password access.
